PLEASE NOTE: If a student earns multiple Rensselaer merit scholarships, the university will award the highest merit award for which the student is qualified, but does not combine multiple awards. Total Rensselaer provided scholarships and/or tuition benefits may not exceed tuition.

When you use your FAFSA form to apply for aid, you are automatically considered for Federal aid, including grants, loans and College Work Study.

NOTICE: Commencing for the 10/11 academic year (July, 1 2010), Rensselaer will be participating in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program for Federal student and parent loans, including the Stafford, Parent PLUS, and Graduate PLUS loans. As of June 30, 2010, no new Federal student loans will be made under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program as a result of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (HCERA).

Federal Stafford Loan programs:
Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) - loans are provided by private lenders, such as banks, credit unions and savings & loan associations. These loans are guaranteed against default by the federal government.

Federal Direct Student Loan Program (FDSLP) loans or "Direct Loans", administered by "Direct Lending Schools", are provided by the US government directly to students and their parents.
