Research plays an integral role in the pursuit of Rensselaer’s vision for the future.
In recent years, Rensselaer has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to build world-class facilities that allow our research leaders to advance the frontiers of human possibility. Rensselaer also structures research activities in ways that help spark new and dazzling insights. Our research constellations bring together some of the brightest stars in academia in teams that include undergraduates as well as faculty members and graduate students.
The mission of the Office for Research is to realize the Rensselaer Plan’s goal of achieving prominence in the 21st century as a top-tier world-class technological research university with global reach and global impact, by providing strategic and operational support and infrastructure for the development of research programs and projects at Rensselaer.
Support services are offered for faculty seeking research opportunities, research proposal and budget preparation, and guidance on research management and intellectual property issues.
The Office coordinates major research themes and programs through interdisciplinary research centers. The Office provides support, services and training to assure compliance with ethical and regulatory mandates governing research, including safe and humane care of animals used in research, biosafety, the protection of human subjects, the use of human and animal stem cells, and conflicts of interest.
